Regain & Maintain Self-Control
One of the major misconceptions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy, that people with no personal experience of it, like to talk about is that they are concerned about ‘losing control’.
If you click here you will go to the “What is Hypnotherapy?” page which mentions three situations which you probably have some experience of and which you may not have thought of as being an experience of hypnosis and certainly not situations where you ‘lost control’.
In everyday life it is easy to fall into a pattern of behaviour which becomes automatic. It is easy to develop habits by carrying out the same activities and making the same responses on a daily, weekly, repetitive basis. These habits become ‘the way I behave’, ‘the way I am’, ‘the way it is’. It is easy to find yourself not in conscious control of your responses but rather find yourself responding automatically from your subconscious. This may be fine, you may like the responses. The difficulty arises when the automatic responses which you are coming up with are not the ones you wish to have. It is at this point that altering the automatic responses by using the tactics you have always used which up to now have always worked can become a little trickier.
Hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious, it bypasses the conscious, but it is still you that it is working with. It works directly with the same subconscious that has, with your assistance, got into the current pattern of working that you wish to change. It is only you and your subconscious that change it. Hypnotherapy is simply the communication tool for you to do the talking with your own subconscious.
Hypnotherapy therefore actually gives you the opportunity to regain control of how you act and react in any way that you wish to focus on. It gives you the opportunity to re-organise in a methodical manner how you wish your subconscious to control aspects of your conscious existence. It does this anyway the difference that hypnotherapy brings is that it allows you to regain, in the first instance, and maintain, in the longer term the control that you are looking for.
