What is HSF ?
HSF stands for Human Social Functioning. It is a counselling skill developed by Eugene Heimler.
HSF is an approach which helps people to take control of their own lives. It’s uniqueness is in it’s particular combination of methods used along with the use of Heimler’s Scale of Social Functioning. Each completed Scale, of an individuals life at a given moment in time, as a central principle of the process belongs to the person whose life is documented. The Scale itself incorporates and facilitates both self interviewing/assessment and self therapy/treatment.
The aim of HSF is to help people as individuals and in groups to make the most of their abilities, however latent, and to use positively their inner resources and past experiences. Emphasis throughout the process is placed upon the importance of the individual making her or his own decisions. The decision making tool, Heimler’s Scale of Social Functioning, helps the individual to understand their life situation and from that understanding make decisions and act accordingly.
In respect of HSF, success is stated by Heimler as being,
“the ability to transform the unacceptable, to oneself or to society, into the acceptable.”
