Phobia

The range of possible things people may have phobias of is as broad as the level of impact they may have on someone’s life. They can range from something as life encompassing as agoraphobia with all of the fundamental impact it has on day to day living to a still significant but  none the less smaller impacting fear on a day to day basis of something such as small insects. The common theme between phobias is that they are fundamentally a fear of ‘fear’, eliciting comments like “even the thought of doing/seeing a …..(add your own concern)”.

Phobias are an excellent example of how quickly someone can learn something, even if it’s now not, what they wished they had learnt. Often phobias can, although do not necessarily need to be for effective dissipation, traced back to some original root cause.

NLP has a particularly effective technique for altering the impact a phobia may have on someone’s life and as such is the first of a number of options I would use when working with someone to remove their phobia. This option is fast, thorough and easy for anyone to do and results in a lasting solution, if further interventions are needed, then there are other techniques available which can be used to help.
